Coach Chambliss brings his expertise in batting technique as well as fielding knowledge as a Gold Glove first baseman to our baseball coaching staff.
In addition to Chris’s illustrious playing career, he had an impressive managing and coaching career in baseball as well.
In 1989, Chambliss became the manager for the Double-A London Tigers of the Eastern League, an affiliate of the Detroit Tigers. The London Tigers won the Eastern League title in 1990. That same year Chambliss was named Minor League Manager of the Year by The Sporting News.
Chambliss was also a hitting coach with the Yankees, and has the distinction of being one of two men who wore a Yankees uniform (player or coach) during each of the Yankees’ last six World Series Championship seasons prior to 2009 (1977, 1978, 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2000
Chris was also the hitting coach for the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Mets and Cincinnati Reds.
For many years, Chambliss was a leading candidate to manage a major league team. He was considered for manager of the Chicago White Sox in 1991, the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1996, the Mets in 1999, the Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks in 2000, and the Mets again in 2002.
Chambliss was the manager of the Triple A Charlotte Knights prior to joining the Seattle Mariners in November 2010 as hitting coach.
It’s apparent that Coach Chambliss brings a wealth of baseball knowledge to the coaching staff of the “Alpha Zone”!!
CLASSES:
ONE-ON-ONE – (1/2 hour for each session) = $250 per session (maximum of 5 sessions)
GROUP CLUB – (1/2 hour per session – not more than 4-5 athletes per session) = $100 per session (maximum of 5 sessions)
Batting & First Base Fielding Skills Training
Former Major League batting coach and Gold Glove recipient, Chris Chambliss, will address batting and first base technique and strategies in his “Alpha Zone” course.
· Batting skills – Coach Chambliss will address such issues as batting stance, how to zero in on the pitch, hitting to all fields, when to lay off, bunting technique, proper bat weight, preparation prior to the at-bat.
· First Base fielding skills – Chris will focus on situational positioning, glove control, field awareness, ground balls, pop ups, line drives, the scoop, throws, movement when a ball is put in play, etc.
